I'm waiting for cable. It's not something I'm all that excited about, really. OK, you got me. I HATE IT!
But I'm surviving — if the cable guy doesn't arrive Sunday, I might lose it — only thanks to the seasons upon seasons of my favorite TV shows on DVD. One of the few things I brought with me (I shipped it and insured it for $1,500, actually) to Seattle was my somewhat extensive DVD collection.
More than half of the DVDs I own are the entire series of my favorite sitcoms, including Will & Grace and Friends. And Scrubs, thus far.
This week, I made it through the entire 10th season of Friends, the seventh season of Scrubs and, currently, I'm on disc No. 2 of season nine of Friends. Yes, I realize I'm watching them in reverse order.
When I explained to one of my friends that I was using my downtime to watch the DVDs that, previously, had not even been out of the plastic, she questioned my choice. "I never liked Friends, she said, before launching into some anecdote about "that time on Seinfeld."
And that reminded me ... I never liked Seinfeld. Ever. She acted like I had two, no three, heads.
The truth is I never watched Seinfeld. I missed that bus, somehow. And the reruns I've caught, well, they just don't catch my attention.
Yet, somehow, I find myself surrounded by people who constantly say things like, "That reminds me of that Seinfeld episode ..." or they quote lines from the show and look at me as I stare blankly at them with that "huh?!?" look stretched across my wrinkling face.
I'm not sure why Seinfeld is such a quoted show. But that's probably because, like I said, I missed that bus. Now, if someone said, "It's a treat for the eyes AND the ears," I would laugh uncontrollably.
That, to me, is one of the funniest lines Chandler Bing ever spoke. Thank you, Matthew Perry.
But, maybe I'm alone here. Maybe I'm the only one who wishes Central Perk were a real place where I could sit on the couch and hear a rendition of Smelly Cat courtesy of one Phoebe Buffay, aka Princess Consuela Banana Hammock.
Right now, somewhere in the world, someone aside from me has to be cracking up about those moments in NBC history. Maybe they're doing what I have been known to do and making up their own song, sung to the tune of Smelly Cat. Trust me, it's a lot catchier than you might have thought.

Let's not kid, I'm the Queen of all things Friends! Friends IS a treat for the eyes AND the ears!!! I have been known to watch all 10 seasons in reverse as well. I believe it's either season four or five when the girls lose the apartment to Chandler and Joey. I love that episode so much, it hurts. Let me know when you've gotten that far!
Ross: Joey's imaginary friend as a child's name was ______
Monica: Maurice!
Ross: His occupation?
Rachel: Um, um, um, space cowboy!!!
Good stuff.
That episode cracks me up, too. The one-liners in that game are phenomenal.
Oooh! Season 7 of Scrubs is out??!
Duuuuuuude. You need:
1. Arrested Development (all 3 seasons are on Hulu -- free streaming content, woo-hoo!)
2. How I Met Your Mother (I just discovered the joy that is a middle-aged Doogie Howser, MD)
3. CONCHORDS, godammit. Why didn't anyone watch this show? That's why HBO took is awaaaaaaay.
